Alinco DJ-C5 |
The DoC is proud to present a resource for radio hacking and experimentation. This reference is for the Alinco DJ-C5 dual band scanner/radio.
This is one of the smallest radios on the market. Outputting a mere 300Mw this "calculator size" radios makes the perfect backup of unit or spare. It is small enough to fix comfortably in Tee-shirt pocket. I carry one in the floppy disc pocket of my laptop bag. At the size of 56(W) x 94(H) x 13.6(D)mm and a weight of 85g if this unit was any smaller it would fit in a PCMCIA type-III slotThe built-in Lithium-ion will last all day or longer with normal use and seems to hold a charge for weeks or months (more then I can say for my NiMA or or NiCd batteries I use with my other HTs) yet it charges in less then two hours.
Being that this unit costs as much as some high end FRS units and is yet smaller and has a significantly wider receive capability, I would have to say that this is a great deal.
The general features of this unit are: 50 memory channels, CTCSS tone encoder / decoder standard, Multiple European tone bursts, AM aircraft receive with expanded, VHF wide band reception
The only thing this device lacks are named memories and a PC programming interface, but for the size you can't beat it..
A scanned copy of the manufacturers manual is available at http://www.dis.org/radio/radios/dj-c5/dj-c5ins.pdf.Reset: Hold [MW] & [FUNC] buttons and turn the radio on.
The Mars/Cap mod for this radio is simple and requires no soldering.
After modifying this unit will cover MURS and FRS frequencies.
