The DoC is proud to present a resource for radio hacking and experimentation. This reference is for the ICOM IC-T8, it is advised that people use their radio responsibly and legally.
The IC-T8 radio from Icom is one of the first of the Tri-band HT's on the market. The radio covers the 6 meter, 2 meter and 440 MHz Bands for 5 Watts.
With modifications the radio can receive from 50-999MHz (minus cellular).
Some of the many shortcomings of this radio are its inability of utilize a cross-band repeater. The receiver is prone to images / intermod making the higher bands (800Mhz) nearly unusable and the VHF range problematic in high RF areas.
Other problems include a problematic battery clip that is prone to breakage causing the unit to fall of your belt.
