The VX-5r is the radio of choice for those that need of a small, powerful and rugged Hand held Tranceiver (HT). This radio is one of the family of wide-band HTs that is rugged enough to earn a MIL-STD 810 rating.
Designed for amateur Ham radio tri band use in the 6m, 2m and 70cm (50MHz, 144MHz and 440MHz), this radio features wide band receive from .5MHz-16MHz and 49MHz-999MHz and can be modified to provide exceptional wide band transmission range. The VX-5R sensitivity is a little deaf around 200 Mhz, while it will recive this band it lacks sensitivity, the same is said for the 800-900 Mhz band.
It is also one of the few wide-band handhelds that support CTCSS and DCS (Digital Coded Squelch) as well as has the ability to operate with crossband repeaters.
